Dear Shawn,
I don’t know what to say. Yesterday I read your email but did not have time to answer it. I had a wonderful day, and after my class at the University I went to an organ concert. I was in heaven until I arrived home when I had bad news from a patient, she lost her baby, the baby had died. You know I work with pregnant woman and this never happens before, bur this is a really complicated history.
I talked to her now and she said everything is OK. Today is her birthday and she has another daughter to take care. I think probably her daughter will help her to pass this moment. I want to stay near her and pray for her and her family. Perhaps you can do the same. Her name is Anna Flávia, and the baby’s name is Clara.
When I read your email I thought after reading your writings that I would like, one day, to participate on this conversation. Perhaps it is not time yet… I am here waiting for the right time.

I am very happy that the monastery was a good experience for you and I look forward to hearing bout it one day, when you are ready.I had promised the others that their words would stay only on the website until we all have decided that they were worth sending out to the rest of the world. I can give you my portion of the discussion that we have been having on the nature of God. Andrew thinks that there is no way to Know God and Edward has it all figured out, and his church is right!

I could not understand what you said about the email you forwarded from Edward and Andrew. Was it on the email you sent telling it was yours? I haven’t received any another email.
I am happy I can participate on your discussion. When I said that I was not able to do it is only because I think I don’t know enough English to write for them. They don’t know me and I am afraid they will not comprehend and accept my poor English. With you I feel more confident and I am not afraid making mistakes. Perhaps you can introduce me and explain this for them. What do you think about this?
I would like to tell you my feelings but I can not. It is nothing with you, it is with me. As I told I had had a strong experience at the monastery and it continues here. Plotinus always says that we can only tell the experience once it is finished and this is not what is happening now.
For me it is important to be connected with you. I do not know why, but it doesn’t matter.

You do not know how I am felling now about this present…Specially coming from you. Now I will begin to understand your way of thinking from your point of view (and your friends too) .For me it is very important to read the original and not only the commentators. I did this with Plotinus. First I read his treatise and later the commentators.
I am sure this will change myself in another way. Besides my work on Plotinus I am now reading Gregory of Nyssa as ‘lectio divina’ and he had Origenes’ influences. I do have a special place for Origenes near me.

Now I could understand what happened with the emails you forwarded from Edward and Andrew. As you sent them with another username it was in another place and I could not see it. Today I found them and could read it. I think we are talking not only by email but in “other ways” because when we think things happens.
Thanks for hearing your inner voice, it is easier for me to read in French and I appreciated your effort to find the book on the French Amazon site. You can not believe… Today I found the card of a French teacher I meet last summer at my club. As I had to write an e-mail for that Greek professor I remembered how difficult is it for me to write in French, then I decided to ask her help and I decided to begin French classes to prepare myself for the congress. French will be the official language there. Almost at the same time you sent me this email asking me if it is better to write in French I was talking to her.
As you see I can not write even in French yet. So I will try to write in Portuguese, then I will translate into English. It will be a good exercise for me and I will ask my English teacher to correct it. This will take time until I would write directly on the website but I think it will work. I don’t want to show him our particular conversation, but the other one it will be OK.
I think it is good idea to invite John Spencer for the discussion. What is his interest for?

Let me explain, since you did not receive the other two emails that I forwarded to you. Edward and Andrew both sent me an email on the same day that you did. Edward is not happy with Andrew as a discussion partner because he does not go forward (seems to go in circles). He asked me to find other voices to contribute.Andrew, at the same time, told me that he felt that he cannot contribute to the discussion any more because he thinks that our discussions are nothing but ‘speculation’, and that no one can ‘know’ the answers to the questions that we are posing. He asked if I could find a replacement for him.
So when your email came asking if you could join, I had to laugh.
Please do not be concerned about your abilities. I tried to explain to Andrew for the longest time that it is the search that is important, not ‘knowing everything’. I agree that we can never ‘know God’, but that does not mean that we should not try! If you get to the point that you cannot say what you want to in English, please write it in Portuguese. We can have someone later translate it.
Also, feel free to ask Edward or me difficult questions. Remember, Edward has much knowledge, but he is not listening to his heart. For example, he said that St. Gregory was Origen’s greatest student. How could the same church call the teacher a heretic and his ‘best student’ a saint? But Plato did not make any footnotes in his dialogs, he just let the reader of them make up their own judgment of the speaker and the words of the speaker.
So, please just be true to yourself!

Since you are joining our little discussion on Origenes2000.org, I have decided to send you a little present. You will be receiving from Amazon.com the most important (remaining) writings of Origen.As you will notice it is in French! His commentary on the Gospel of John was his most important work. Unfortunately, there are only a few of the 32 books in there original Greek. This book that I am sending has Rufinus’ translation of books 1 to 10. You can skip this for now. We know that Rufinus drastically shortened Origen’s work and adapted it to the Roman dogma of his time.
The fragments of books 13 through 32 are enough to give you a good feel for Origen’s teaching and his vast knowledge of the scripture.

I was happy that I could manage to navigate on the French Amazon site! I was reading this book today in English and my inner voice told me to buy it for you in French. The Gospel of John is the only spiritual Gospel and Origen spent 20 years of life dedicated to understanding all that John wrote (and did not write!).I asked you before to write in Portuguese if you were having problems expressing yourself. Can you write in French instead? This way Edward would understand and I can get my wife to translate it for me.
I have also invited John Spencer from your panel to join in the discussion. I would like to see his quantum physic explanation for the soul. It is an area that I have always been interested in, but have never had the time to spend developing the theory.
I am excited how things are moving, not only between you and I! I hope you feel the same.

Perhaps you did not receive my last email…I am happy because I have received your present when I arrived home this evening. I really did not have time to read it yet, but tomorrow morning I will do it. I think it is my present for this new beginning… I hope we will be together in this path.
Tomorrow is the last day for USP (University of São Paulo) PhD’s inscription and I have just finished my project. I am tired now but happy because I could finish these works and I loved writing it and the result.

I decided to read Origenes before my evening’s prayers. It is so strong for me!!! You can’t imagine… I read it with my heart and this opens it in a way I have never felt before. I usually read only a small piece of it because I feel it in a strong way and then I have to stop and pray.
I tried to read your conversation. It is really interesting. I hope one day I will not only read it but contribute to the discussion. For the moment I can’t do it, not even because I am afraid about my English, but because I want to read a bit more of Origenes. Of course I have many things to say, do you think I can introduce my self explaining this limitation and tell them that I am still a silent participant? Perhaps you can help me…
